Maggie

Well, it is snowing 14 inches in Boston between today and tomorrow. I am literally stuck at my house, which has been great, because it is giving me a chance to go back and edit pictures I took forever ago! Just pretend Boston still has New England fall leaves. Also, stay tuned, I am even dusting off some old files from travels three years ago.

This is Maggie, one of my best friends. She has been there for what seems like everything--sweeping up piles of dead ants in our bedroom in Ghana, helping me not die in the Walmart parking lot after discovering I was allergic to salmon, mailing me Swiss chocolate when she was living in Geneva doing stuff with the UN when I got my heart broken, helping me figuring out what to do with my life by providing markers and think space to do our ritual "life-mapping." She is absolutely beautiful, inside and out, and I am so lucky to have her around in Boston!

Hillary and Jaes: Couple Pictures in Concord

Meet Hillary and Jaes, my first Boston models! They were looking for some couple pictures and figured there was no better place or time of year to do it than New England in the fall. I quite agree with them. The colors were so vibrant that I could only bring myself to do one final edit in black and white!

We had a great time with this shoot, and part of it was the location. We decided on going to the bridge in Concord where the first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired. There is so much history here. And good people. I love Boston, and am holding onto these colorful leaves to get me through another freezing winter.

And really, aren't these two a gorgeous couple?

Now Located out of Boston, MA

Hi Folks,

Now that I am setting into the Boston Area, I am going to continue start taking pictures again. If you know of anyone in the area who may be interested in an affordable, natural light photographer, send them my way!
For all of my clients in Utah, I am still available at certain times of the year to do shoots. Please contact me in advance and we can see what can be arranged.

Best, Rachel

Mr. and Mrs. Swain

Congratulations to my little sister, Rose, and my new brother, Greg!

Shooting these pictures was completely spontaneous during a few down moments on their wedding day. I am so happy for them and so excited to hear about the adventures they have together. Seriously, Rose is an example to me. I admire her courage and the leap of faith she took as she beings to write this new chapter of her life. I hope one day to be brave and strong enough to do the same.

Welcome to the family, Greg. We love you!

Daniel's Senior Pictures

Meet my little brother, Daniel.

I can’t believe he is graduating from high school, but I couldn’t be prouder of him. This shoot was incredibly relaxing and rewarding. Lately (don’t know if you have noticed, haha) I have been so busy and even a bit burned out from photography. Editing these photographs, even in the midst of everything I have to do before flying out to Boston on Wednesday, was so refreshing. What I have always liked about photography is I feel like it shows a piece of people’s soul that we don’t always see—capturing something deeper. I think I lost sight of that in the last year, but editing these pictures was a much-needed reminder.

Love you, Danny! Thank you for being you.

Zach and Libbey

I’ve known Zach for… oh gosh… I have to count.
Five years.

But when I met up with Zach last month doing his engagement pictures to Libbey, I have to admit I hardly recognized him. Not because he looked much different, or talked much different, or even acted much different from the Zach we all know and love—but he was changed. He had a glow about him and a kind of smile I’d never seen him wear before. I’ve heard it said that love transforms us; true love inspires us to be the best people we can be. I can’t tell you how true I think that is, and doing this engagement session—seeing how Zach looked and adored Libbey—was evidence enough for me.

Congratulations to Zach and Libbey! I was grateful they shared their story with me.

Lora and Chris: A Love Story

This is my dear friend, Lora, and her wonderful fiancĂ©, Chris.  I’ve known Lora forever; we survived high school together—dances, cafeteria lunch in the library, game nights, you name it.  She was always the sweet kind of girl that everyone adores.  She is still that amazing girl, but now she found someone who can see and love her for that.  Doing these engagements was a privilege for me.  It was fantastic to be able to see her and Chris’s happiness in the lens of my camera.  These things show through, they always do.  I am so happy to see another friend create a happier ever after.

Love you Lora!  Congratulations to you both.

And might I add, these two were one of the most photogenic couples I’ve ever photographed!
